British Lead and Speed Climbing Championships 15/16 October 2011

The British Lead Climbing Championships (BLCC) are spread over the weekend with the Juniors (under 20) climbing on the Saturday and the Seniors (16 and over) on the Sunday.  Held at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena in Ratho (EICA:Ratho) the route setters (Neil McGeachy, Gary Vincent and Mark Pretty) had been hard at work for 2 days putting together challenging routes for the 79 climbers competing in the 10 junior categories and the Male Veterans.

There were 12 Quickdraws taking part and while fortunes were mixed there were some gutsy climbs on display.

In the Juniors (18/19) Jonny Field was third and Ross Kirkland equal 6th

We had no one in the Youth A (16/17) categories.

Youth B (14/15) saw Rachel Carr take 2nd place and Euan King finish in 11th.

Youth C (12/13) was our biggest category with 5 girls and 1 boy.  Eilidh Vass Payne won a place in the final and finished in 5th place, while Kirsten Gray was 7th, Keira Farmer and Gabriella Stewart equal 10th and Jodie Brown equal 12th.  William Bosi took 2nd place.

In the Seniors on the Sunday Calum Forsyth achieved 15th, Ross took 10th, Jonny Field 7th and Natalie Berry took 2nd.

In the first ever British Speed Finals Rachel Carr and Alexander Bosi took the Junior titles, Natalie Berry was Senior Female Champion and Calum Forsyth was second in the Senior Male Finals.

Also worthy of note is that Quickdraw provided over 50% of the volunteers for the event so thanks to all the parents and climbers who turned out to judge, belay, run and operate cameras.  Without us these events could not go ahead.
