Imst Colors Festival 2010

A huge congratulations to all our Quickdraws and friends that took part in this weekend's Imst Colors Festival in Imst.  Open to under 13s this competition attracts youngsters from all over Europe.  Competing on behalf of Quickdraw were Angus, William and Gabriella.  Also there were our friend from up North Nikki Addison and Sophie Harper, and from down south Tara Hayes, Randy Roby and Billy Ridal (all members of GB Youth C with Angus and Nikki).

Amazing day out for the Quickdraws that didn't involve climbing.. unless you count climbing out of the water countless times..

Special thanks to Gary for organizing it.. and yes he did look good in that wetsuit!!

Scottish Youth Climbing Championships

Neil Gresham was at EICA on Sunday 9th May to impart some of his "Masterclass" knowledge to the lucky climbers in his training sessions:

YCS Round 3 Dundee

The results here of the final round of the Scotland South YCS in Dundee which saw some challenging routes but an astonishing number of Quickdraws made it on to the podium, 1st for Robert, William and Andrew. 2nd for Rory, Gabs and Jamie. 3rd for Megan and Abi. 

This was also the decider for the qualifying rounds and again Quickdraws were up there, 1st for Robert, William and Andrew. 2nd for Megan, Lewis and Jamie. 3rd for Rory, Ally, Gabs and Abi. They will all be able to compete in the British Final to be held at EICA in June. Additionally Amelia, Ishbel, Alexandra, Lyndsay, Alexander and Euan have made it into the Scottish YCS Final being held at EICA on the 15th May. Well done to everybody who competed and good luck for the finals!

Leading Ladder Final

Results here of the final of the 2010 Leading Ladder took place in Leeds on 24th April. Rachel's experience of the Event.

Run in a similar format to the qualifying rounds, the top 10 competitors in each group from around Britain have 6 hours to complete their 5 routes.  Eleanor and Rachel both qualified for the Under 16 Female Recreational category which had 6b+, 6c, 7a, 7b and 7c.

BMC Open Youth Lead Climbing Competition - 24th July, EICA Ratho

EICA will host the next BMC Open Youth Competition on 24th July.  This event will be similar to that held last November at Awesome Walls in Liverpool.  Designed to be a fun and relaxed competition which is open to young competitors born between 1991 and 1998 it will also be used to select the GB team that will compete in the Worlds in September.  Climbers from the French Youth team, who are over that week participating in a joint training camp with the GB Youth team, will also take part.

Volunteers required for YCS Finals, World Youth Championships and British Lead Climbing Championships

There are three top level BMC managed competitions running at EICA this year and they all require a raft of volunteers to make them run smoothly.  You will normally get lunch and refreshments throughout the day and there might even be a free t-shirt up for grabs. If you can help with registration, general administration, running, rope carrying, videoing, judging or belaying at any of these events please let Avril know at


The Climbing Academy is coming to Glasgow!!

 The Climbing Academy which boasts one of the biggest bouldering walls in the UK located in Bristol, has announced it has acquired a site in Portman Street, Glasgow. Work is due to start in June opening 4 months later. Read all about it on their website.
